How Over the Top Can We Get?

By Tim Valentine

Soon after Imagine started in 2011, the board decided that we wanted a special
performance night to feature our new members and grow our family tradition. I
started writing the first Over the Top cabaret in November 2011 and a handful of performers from The Wedding Singer and our first The Rocky Horror Show put together a hilarious night to raise money for Imagine’s future.

Now on our 3rd rendition, we have made it through the favorites and are starting to
find new and unique musical theatre selections that showcase our talent but more
importantly make the audience laugh till you pee. Gender switching? Diva belting?
Costume surprises? Anything goes in Over the Top 3! The original cabaret started with Find Your Grail/Freak Flag and last January opened with Hello/Turn It Off, so what do you think we will open with this time?

As the director, I try each year to create a balance of full ensemble numbers, duets, and solos that can be taught, choreographed, and staged in less than 8 rehearsals. This year, we feature 24 performers in numbers from Mary Poppins, Reefer Madness, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Producers, A Little Night Music, and Hair.

Our soloists will share some hilarious musical theatre cabaret songs by Kooman,
Mitnick, Scanlan & Tesor, and Heisler & Goldrich. Ryan Stem has created a unique
“unplugged” salute to our 2013 season that opens Act 2.

I hope you will join us this Sunday, November 24 at Wall Street Night Club, doors open at 6:30pm with show at 7:30pm. Seats and standing room are $15 online or at the door. Make a reservation today at
